Episode 25: Laura Weightman, Athletics

British distance runner Laura Weightman announced her retirement from Athletics last month. Although it came much sooner than she would have liked, it gave Laura the opportunity to chat through the 5 moments that defined her career.

A career that included many highlights – 3 Top 8 placings at a global championships, 2 medals over 1500 metres at the European Championships and also 2 Commonwealth medals, including one at 5000 metres.

Coached throughout her career by 1983 World Champion and BBC commentator Steve Cram, the athlete from the North East made a name for herself at the London 2012 Olympic Games. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Laura was denied the chance to compete at her third Olympics in 2020, when in peak shape.

A serious of injuries curtailed her career, but there are plenty of highlights to reflect on as Laura tells us her 5 defining moments.
